Please join us for one of the
most unique flying contests in the area.
The
challenge this year is to fly a 2 legged course. Maps will be distributed to
each team as they take off. The object is to fly the course as cleanly as
possible, so as to best emulate the official course time known only to the
officials running the race and announced after all planes have returned. Each
leg will be timed and recorded. The total time will be tallied after returning
to the original site. The winner is determined by the team with the closest
possible combined times, over or under, to the official time. Second and third
place are to follow in the same manner.
All
aircraft must take off from the runway and land on the next determined runway.
Field repairs are allowed but the aircraft must leave the ground from wherever
the plane landed. If you drive in with your plane you will get a zero for that
leg. Timing is started when the wheels leave the ground and stopped when they
hit again and stick.
Battery
charging, refueling, and repairs can be made at the designated landing sites
with no time penalty.
Typical
planes are trainers or even ¼ scale Cubs. Whatever you want to fly. Electric
would be interesting!
Requirements:
Registration starts at 8AM and closes at 8:45 AM. Test flying before 8:45 is
allowed with standard frequency control and club rules to be followed..
$5.00
per team member, not to exceed $20.00 per team. Lunch will be made available by
the Space City cook at an additional charge.
At least
a 3 man team - Pilot, driver, and navigator. Most have 4 members. Anyone flying
is required to show proof of current AMA status. Don’t forget your cards!
Multiple pilots are allowed and encouraged as it can get pretty tedious flying
for extended periods of time.
Plenty
of fuel and fuel capacity for at least a 50 minute full throttle flight.
Plenty
of battery capacity, at least enough for 2 fifty minute flights or quick charge
at halfway point.
There
will be NO unsecured chairs or seats of any kind allowed. ALL chairs or whatever
must be restrained to insure the safety of the pilots. A couple of pillows
against the tailgate of a pickup work just fine.
A cell
phone in all vehicles and number to be registered with the team.
Please,
no computer assisted mapping.
Recommendations:
Please,
if you have extra crystals for you radio system (a different frequency of
course) bring them along.
Quick
chargers and/or extra battery packs.
Goggles
or some sort of eye protection that will not fly off in the wind.
Extra
props, voltmeter, and some good CA in case it’s needed.
Speed
may be from as little as 5 miles per hour up to possibly 65 miles per hour. Make
sure your plane can achieve these speeds and don’t forget there will be a head
wind somewhere along the course so extra power is always good.
Bring
your toys and spend the rest of the day flying at our great facility. Field
rules apply.
